CLEAN AIR ACTION PLAN 2017 DRAFT DISCUSSIONS BEGIN

clean_air_action_plan_cover_of_booklet.jpg

The Clean Air Action Plan has been a tremendous success since its inception in 2006. Our port complex has been able to grow and increase jobs while decreasing emissions over 80 percent. The industry has invested over a billion dollars in clean air technology and this newest update of the plan addresses greenhouse gasses for the first time and will get us even closer to the goal of zero emissions.

The Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach have just released the 2017 San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) Discussion Document. Review it here: bit.ly/CAAPdd

The ports will hold a joint public meeting to discuss proposals for updating the CAAP on Thursday, November 17, 6 p.m., at the Port of Long Beach Maintenance Facility, 725 Harbor Plaza, Long Beach, CA, 90802. The public review and comment process extends through February 17, 2017. During this period, written comments can be submitted to caap@cleanairactionplan.org.

In the month of October alone, Councilman Buscaino's ERT team was able to connect 7 homeless people from these 6 locations in San Pedro to homeless services as well as one in Wilmington. These people have now been connected with short-term shelters, mental health services, or transportation to a permanent housing location. A study by LAHSA showed that housing homeless individuals decreases the average public cost by 79% as opposed to leaving someone on the street.
