The Banning Residence Museum, located in the heart of Wilmington, is one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the west. The 23-room residence was built in 1864 by General Phineas Banning, the founder of Wilmington and "father of the Port of Los Angeles," where he entertained the elite of the social, economic, and political world.
In 1927, the house and grounds were purchased by the City of Los Angeles to create a city park for the residents of Wilmington.
